About Jim Koetting

Jim Koetting is the CEO and founder of Public Fund Investment Strategies in St. Charles, Missouri, and author of the book Public Fund Investing For Dummies and CPFIM program of the Association of Public Treasures of the United States and Canada. He works with public institutions to identify and expose investment risks that are often missed, implement investment strategies with reporting systems, and find hidden money in portfolios; his most appreciated service is reducing often-overlooked negative arbitrage in bond issues. Inspired by an “epidemic” of investment and portfolio management ignorance in the public sector, Mr. Koetting wrote Public Fund Investing For Dummies, introducing it in May, 2007 during the Government Financial Officers Association (GFOA) National Conference, where his booth was inundated with thousands of requests for the book. Public Fund Investing For Dummies emphasizes writing a plan, building a strategy, and finding competent help in order to maximize opportunities in a public budget as well as picking investments to match that strategy.

Originally hailing from Kansas City, Jim Koetting currently resides in O’Fallon, Missouri, with his wife and two daughters. In his spare time, the Eagle Scout served on the St. Charles County Library Board, nationally recognized underwater photographer, and you might be able to catch playing lead guitar in “Get Back” a Beatles cover band in St. Louis. The greatest thing that someone ever said to Mr. Koetting was, “Gentleman, the President of the United States will be with you in a few minutes…. Jim, come on back.” The Oval Office was smaller than he imagined.
